The Expedition
Come with us and experience
the world's most famous, most feared and most spectacular of sharks,
the Great White. To see a great white shark in the wild is a very
special and rare experience but to come face to face with one underwater
is the most exciting experience available to divers today! This
tour takes place around the scenic offshore islands of South Australia
and has been described as the ultimate adventure that Australia
has to offer.
It is only in South Australia that Rodney and
Andrew Fox provide the special live aboard tours that incomparably
maximize your face to face opportunities with great
white sharks. Our special adventures depart from Port Lincoln, and
head out into the clear blue waters of the Southern Ocean. At the
Neptune Islands we find an array of wildlife, including many bird
species, dolphins, thousands of fur seals, and the beautiful and
rare Australian sea lion. Here is the natural feeding ground of
the great white shark.
Just
one year after the release of Jaws into the cinemas,
Rodney lead the very first Cage Diving Expedition for non professional
divers to experience "the thrill of the Great White Shark first
hand! Carl Roessler, with Sea and See Dive Travel,
bought out this first group of divers from the USA in 1976. This
launched the ultimate diving adventure and is still generally regarded
as the pinnacle in any divers career. This event continues
in the very same tradition and spirit today where we strive to make
each and every expedition an unforgettable adventure of a lifetime.
Fox
Expeditions are proud to continue providing a vital research platform
for field studies. Such long-term productivity by the Foxs
has contributed to the public education, imagery and resulting admiration
that finally lead to the protection that Great Whites now enjoy
worldwide.
On special selected dates throughout the year,
Rodney still joins his son Andrew onboard our new vessel "Princess
II". Here along with researchers and regular shark lovers,
we also have film crews and professional photographers documenting
every unique adventure. There is the opportunity to really learn
something, or just relax and enjoy. Rodney and Andrew also regularly
film parts of each expedition, available as memento of your experience.
We like to think that on any Fox Expedition, you never just join
on a regular cage diving tour but become an expedition member of
the greatest shark experience possible anywhere in the world.
As you travel through Adelaide to get to Port
Lincoln, or on your return from Port Lincoln after the tour, expedition
members are welcome to visit at The Rodney Fox Shark Experience
Museum & Gift shop in the seaside suburb of Glenelg. Here amongst
Rodney's unique collection of photographic memorabilia and other
exhibits, is often an opportunity to meet with Rodney if he is not
actually scheduled to be on your planned date..
Experience Required
You
must be a certified diver to participate in this expedition. Certification
can be arranged immediately before the tour for divers arriving
a few days early. Cage diving generally requires that no fins to
be worn, and the BCD's and snorkels are optional. It is generally
not a tremendously physically-demanding endeavour. Instructors can
often provide supervised introductory scuba dives or snorkelling
to non-divers on most dates.
